Montreux and the Chateau de Chillon

Above:The next day, we decided to see the Chateau de Chillon, which is near a little town called Montreux, most of the way around the lake by train. You get off the train in downtown Montreux. We walked up and down the beautiful waterfront of this small town, had lunch, and some German tourists were kind enough to take our picture with the lake, flowers, and mounts in the background. This is one of the places I will always remember.

Above: The flowers in Montreux were stunning. I really like this contrast of the orange flowers with the blue lake, mountains, and sky in the background.

I also got a great shot of Steph here. The day was pressing on, so we boarded a coach for a short ride to the Chateau.

Left, Above, and Below:Inside, the operators of the castle have taken care to grow lots of colorful plants to keep the place from being too oppressive.

Dungeon. Spooky.

More Dungeon. These had to be gamma-adjusted a *lot*.

Left: A great big midaeval fireplace.
Right: Apparently folks in the 13th century had a liking for small, intimate two-person window seating.

A wonderful collection of pewter kitchenware from the period.

Left: A suit of armor. Kind of looks like it has hooters, but I think that breastplate design originates from a need to make lances and swords glance off.
Right: Another view fo the main courtyard.

Left: The tour through the Chateau winds up and around and up again - giving you some good views of the castle courtyard.
Right: And eventually you go right up into the square keep, the oldest part of the castle.

Finally, from the top of the keep, a pretty nice view.
